Aluminum Sulfate is a traditional, first-generation coagulant that has been used for decades. Poly Aluminum Chloride is a newer, pre-hydrolyzed aluminum coagulant developed to improve efficiency and performance under a wider range of conditions.

BENEFITS OF POLY ALUMINUM CHLORIDE PAC

• Higher coagulation efficiency (less chemical needed)
  • PAC has a higher charge density and hydrolyzes more readily, meaning it neutralizes particles more efficiently.
  • You typically need lower dosages of PAC than alum to achieve the same turbidity removal.
• Works over a broader pH range
  • PAC can function effectively across a wider pH range (often ~5–9) without requiring aggressive pH adjustment.
  • Alum has a narrower optimal pH range and often significantly lowers pH, requiring alkali additions.
• Less sludge and better settleability
  • PAC forms denser flocs that settle faster and generate less sludge volume than alum, which reduces disposal costs.
• Lower overall operational cost (in many cases)
  • Because PAC needs less reagent, less pH correction, and produces less sludge, it can result in a lower total cost of treatment — even if its unit price is higher.
