HAYWARD 2-IN-1 TEST KIT

INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Fill both test tubes with water only up to the mark.
  • Add 6 drops of Orthotolidine (OTO 1) to the test tube on the right (yellow).
  • Place caps back on the test tubes and shake well.
  • Compare the color of the water in the test tube to the color scales.
    • The ideal chlorine level to maintain in pool water is between 1.0 mg and 1.5 mg per liter. The ideal bromine level is between 2.2 mg and 3.4 mg per liter.
      • If chlorine level reaches above 3.0 mg per liter and broming level reaches above 6.5 mg per liter, don't perform pH test.
  • If chlorine is at ideal level, add 6 drops of Phenol Red to the test tube on the left (red).
  • Place caps back on the test tubes and shake well.
  • Compare the color of the water in the test tube to the color scales.
    • The ideal pH level to maintain in pool water is between 7.2 and 7.6.
  • Adjust accordingly.
    • If chlorine level is below ideal mark, add Calcium Hypochlorite and test again after 4 hours.
    • If chlorine level is above ideal mark, add or replace pool water and test again after 4 hours.
    • If pH level is below ideal mark, add Dry Acid and test again after 4 hours.
    • If pH level is above ideal mark, add or replace pool water and test again after 4 hours, or add Soda Ash / Sodium Carbonate and test again after 4 hours.
  • Rinse test tubes with tap water and dry and place caps back on.

Note: It is recommended to check pH and chlorine & bromine levels once a week.
Precautions:
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • In case of contact to eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of tap water and seek medical advise.
  • If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately and show packaging.
Hayward 2-in-1 Test Kit tests pH and chlorine & bromine concentrations. Some call this a 3-in-1 test kit.

General Instructions when using a Test Kit:
  • Rinse test tubes before and after each test
  • Obtain water samples one arm length below the surface of the water (18 inches or 45 centimeters).
  • Spill water from the tube until level with test line mark on tube.
  • Hold dropper bottle vertically over tube and add one drop at a time.
  • Perform Test in a shaded area, viewing test results against a lighted background.
  • Store test kit in a cool, dark place.

BLUE DEVIL 5-IN-1 TEST KIT

Chlorine Test
  • Fill CL test tube (yellow) with water only up to the mark.
  • Add 5 drops of Orthotolidine (Solution # 1)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
Free Chlorine Reading:
After shaking, immediately compare the water against the color scale.
  • This should be in the ideal range of 1.0 mg and 1.5 mg per liter.
Combined Chlorine Reading:
Wait for 2 to 3 minutes, compare water again against the color scale.
  • A large difference between free and combined chlorine indicates a need to super chlorinate the pool water.
    • Feel free to call Highchem Trading  and ask about super chlorinating the pool.
Bromine Test
  • Fill CL Test tube (yellow) with water only up to the mark.
  • Add 5 drops of Orthotolidine (Solution # 1)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
  • Compare the water against the color scale of bromine to determine bromine concentration
pH Test
  • Fill large tube (red) with water only up to pH mark
  • Add 1 drop of Chlorine Neutralizer (Solution # 4)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
  • Add 5 drops of Phenol Red (Solution # 2)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
  • Compare the water against the pH color scale to determine the pH
    • The ideal pH level to maintain in pool water is between 7.2 and 7.6.
    • If pH is above 7.6 proceed to Acid Demand Test, do not throw out the water.
Acid Demand Test
  • Using the tested water from the pH test, add the Acid Demand & Total Alkalinity Test (Solution # 3), one drop at a time, swirling in between drops.
  • Count how many drops to change the color to match the 7.4 or 7.6 pH level.
    • Do not count drops to change the color to match the 7.2 pH level.
  • Remember the number of drops added to the water and refer to the Acid Demand Chart in the test kit booklet to determine quantity of Dry Acid required.
    • Feel free to call Highchem Trading and ask about using the Acid Demand Chart.
Total Alkalinity Test
  • Fill large tube (red) with water only up to Total Alkalinity mark (Line A)
  • Add 1 drop of Chlorine Neutralizer (Solution # 4)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
  • Add 2 drops of Total Alkalinity Test (Solution # 5)
  • Place cap back on test tube and shake well
  • Add the Acid Demand & Total Alkalinity Test (Solution # 3), one drop at a time, swirling in between drops.
  • Count how many drops to change color from blue to clear or blue to slightly yellow.
  • Multiply the number of drops by 10 to obtain ppm reading
    • Example: 8 drops x 10 = 80 ppm
    • Ideal total alkalinity is 80 - 120 ppm for plaster finished pools
    • Ideal total alkalinity is 120 - 150 ppm for vinyl, painted, or fiberglass pools.
  • If reading is less than desired, add Soda Ash / Sodium Carbonate.
  • If reading is more than desired, add Dry Acid.
Blue Devil 5-in-1 Test Kit tests chlorine & bromine concentrations, pH, Acid Demand, and Total Alkalinity.

There are 2 major factors to consider while searching for swimming pool builders. First you have to evaluate the company's track record and determine if they have a large number of satisfied clients during the past few years. The second thing to look for is experience. Whether you already have an idea or even a plan for your desired swimming pool, one of the most significant yet challenging areas of building a swimming pool is choosing the suitable swimming pool builders.

Hi, in our opinion, it would still be best to use 6 drops. This is to make sure that the chlorine in the pool is in the ideal level.
