Those who visited Highchem Trading to buy Rapicon or Tornado have seen a chart on the results mixing methanol with Rapicon or Tornado. It shows the resulting percentage of nitromethane and oil and the balance being methanol.

For example, if we have Rapicon 25%, and we want to obtain a resulting mixture with 10% nitromethane, we will mix 1 part of Rapicon 25% with 1.5 part of methanol. When we say "part", it means that for 1 liter of Rapicon 25%, we will mix 1.5 liter of methanol, or for 2 liters of Rapicon 25%, we will mix 3 liters of methanol.

The number one problem with muriatic acid is its corrosiveness. Swimming pool personnel must be careful when handling muriatic acid. Also, when buying or selling muriatic acid in the Philippines, a PDEA permit is required.

Product Applications:
Pilogel Sodium Bentonite is used a viscosifier which helps in piling and directional drilling process. It also has good gel strength to help in drilling. It has low water loss and a high liquid limit.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Fill both test tubes with water only up to the mark.
• Add 6 drops of Orthotolidine (OTO 1) to the test tube on the right (yellow).
• Place caps back on the test tubes and shake well.
• Compare the color of the water in the test tube to the color scales.
  • The ideal chlorine level to maintain in pool water is between 1.0 mg and 1.5 mg per liter. The ideal bromine level is between 2.2 mg and 3.4 mg per liter.
    • If chlorine level reaches above 3.0 mg per liter and broming level reaches above 6.5 mg per liter, don't perform pH test.
• If chlorine is at ideal level, add 6 drops of Phenol Red to the test tube on the left (red).
• Place caps back on the test tubes and shake well.
• Compare the color of the water in the test tube to the color scales.​​
  • The ideal pH level to maintain in pool water is between 7.2 and 7.6.
• Adjust accordingly.
  • ​If chlorine level is below ideal mark, add Calcium Hypochlorite and test again after 4 hours.
  • If chlorine level is above ideal mark, add or replace pool water and test again after 4 hours.
  • If pH level is below ideal mark, add Dry Acid and test again after 4 hours.
  • If pH level is above ideal mark, add or replace pool water and test again after 4 hours, or add Soda Ash / Sodium Carbonate and test again after 4 hours. 
• Rinse test tubes with tap water and dry and place caps back on.

Note: It is recommended to check pH and chlorine & bromine levels once a week.

Chlorine Test

• Fill CL test tube (yellow) with water only up to the mark.
• Add 5 drops of Orthotolidine (Solution # 1)
• Place cap back on test tube and shake well

Free Chlorine Reading:
After shaking, immediately compare the water against the color scale.

• This should be in the ideal range of 1.0 mg and 1.5 mg per liter.

Combined Chlorine Reading:
Wait for 2 to 3 minutes, compare water again against the color scale.

• A large difference between free and combined chlorine indicates a need to super chlorinate the pool water.

Calcium Hypochlorite or more commonly known as chlorine is required to clean swimming pools. But why do we need this? If a swimming pool is left untreated with chlorine, germs will spread. Germs that cause different diseases! This happens when a person with a cold, cough, or any type of disease swims in a pool with no regular maintenance. The other reason to need chlorine is to prevent algae growth. Algae makes the linings of the pool or the water itself turn greenish brown. Nobody want this as algae can carry diseases and (in severe cases) could make your pool into a feeding ground for insects and animals.

A swimming pool filter cleans the pool by blocking debris, such as leaves, hair, fabrics, almost anything visible to the eye. However, what happens when the filter gets clogged? When the filter elements get clogged, the filter elements experiences great pressure and could cause non-repairable damages. Diatomaceous Earth Powder is used as a filter aid in swimming pool filters. It helps prevent clogging.

When too much chlorine is added to the pool, our skin and eyes may become irritated. This is why sometimes, our eyes turn red and itchy when we swim, especially when we open our eyes underwater. A swimming pool needs to be maintained at a pH level of 7.2 to 7.8, but when chlorine is added the pH increases over the suggested pH level. To counter this, Muriatic Acid is added to reduce the pH of the pool. However, due to Philippine Laws, Muriatic Acid is regulated by the PDEA, and we (Highchem Trading and the customer) would need to secure a permit in order to buy and sell Muriatic Acid. But there is a better replacement for Muriatic Acid, Dry Acid. It does not require a PDEA permit, and it is much safer than Muriatic Acid. 

Algaecide kills and prevents algae growth. Though chlorine already serves the same purpose, algaecides reduce the amount of Calcium Hypochlorite to be be used in the swimming pool, which also results in the reduced amount of Dry Acid to be used.
